This website was started as a go-to resource for living more sustainably and for anyone working towards a zero waste lifestyle. Zero Waster is a community for minimalists, tree huggers, earth lovers, and anyone else interested in living more simply with less waste.
What Is Zero Waste?
What is a Zero Waster? ‘Zero Waster’ is a (I think) made up term that describes someone who lives a zero waste lifestyle. For simplicity’s sake, here’s the Wikipedia definition of ‘zero waste’:
“Zero Waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. No trash is sent to landfills or incinerators. The process recommended is one similar to the way that resources are reused in nature.”
Zero waste, is a goal to alter one’s lifestyle and daily habits to the point where you don’t contribute anything to landfills. At Zero Waster, we realize that this might take time, and everyone goes at a different pace—that’s why we created this website as a resource to meet people wherever they are on their path to living more sustainably.
Who Started Zero Waster?
Hi there! I’m Brooke. I started Zero Waster to document my own journey to living a more sustainable lifestyle that is healthy for me and the planet so that you can learn from my experimentation and research and apply it to your own journey.
I’ve always loved nature and the environment, and minored in Environmental Science in college. As a realist (and okay maybe sometimes a pessimist), it was hard for me to think that there’s anything we can do to reverse the fate of the planet. So I did nothing because I knew I couldn’t fix everything. Eventually, I realized that in order to be truly happy, my lifestyle and actions must align with my values. And even if I’m just one person, I must still strive to do what’s best for my health and the environment—and maybe even inspire one or two people along the way.
I’ve also come to realize that experiences matter much more to me than things. Living with less waste isn’t just about living in a way that’s more sustainable for the planet, but focusing on what really matters and cutting out what doesn’t so that you can be happier.
Follow along on the blog as I make small (and sometimes big) changes to move towards the ultimate goal of a zero waste, sustainable lifestyle—While hopefully making your own transition as easy as possible.

Starting your own zero waste journey?
I’d love to hear all about it. Zero waste isn’t an easy goal, and us zero wasters need to stick together! Whether you just learned what zero waste is and are curious, or you’re already a hardcore zero waster, let your voice be heard and join the community.
If you are new to the concept, I’d recommend starting with composting your food scraps—this will have the largest impact on the amount of waste you generate. Then, check out how to reduce the amount of food packing you bring home, how to swap out your disposable products for alternatives, and a few easy recipes for making your own products, from deodorant to toothpaste.
